INSTALLS SPYWARE, HACKS WEB BROWSERS11/4/2012 3:42:20 PM
Pros: The drive works great. I have it set up as a cloud and it seems to be fine. full control over it, no problems.
Cons: Once you install the software, it hijacks your web browser!! I thought at first it was just some junk i picked up on the internet, but after using peerblock (shows IP's your computer connects to and blocks bad ones) IOMEGA is being blocked about every 5 seconds. If i turn peerblock off, Google search redirects me to random sites, including 'easy cash', fake versions of Google, and junk websites. If i turn peerblock back on, i can surf just fine, but everytime i click a link in google, 'IOMEGA' comes up on my peerblock as being blocked.
Before i wrote this article, i wanted to confirm this. I installed the same software on my laptop, and afterwards it does the SAME THING. it hijacked my entire laptop and only with the help of PeerBlock can i surf the web normal now. my spyware remover and antivirus can not pick it up. i surfed the web and found that it is hidden deep in many files and won't easily be removed unless you do it manually.
It is a really sad day when 'trusted' companies sell you viruses. To top it off, they want you to share the program with your friends and co-workers so that they have access to your cloud. that means that they are hijacking EVERY computer who installs this junk.
I WARN YOU, DO NOT INSTALL THIS PROGRAM ON YOUR COMPUTER OR ALLOW YOUR FRIENDS TO INSTALL IT.
IOMEGA, i want to hear your response to this! if you were an american company, your company would be sued by everyone. This is horrible buisness practice, i can not believe you would do this to someone! You can not even deny it, I have your IP being logged every time i click something in Google. THE IP IS KNOWN TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR COMPANY and i am ONLY HIJACKED AFTER I INSTALLED YOUR PROGRAM ON MY COMPUTER AND LAPTOP.
The IP address that are being blocked are:
147.178.248.90
THAT ADDRESS IS OWNED BY YOU, YOU ARE PAYING THE BILL FOR IT. how comes everytime i use google it gets blocked?? how come if i ALLOW that IP and NOT BLOCK IT i get sent to some advertisemnt website?!??!
IOMEGA, that is HORRIBLE, your company is going to be avoided at ALL COST IN THE FUTURE. no one is going to buy junk from a company that installs SPAM and hijacks your webbrowers!
NEWEGG, I EXPECT YOU TO HAVE A VERY LONG CONVERSATION WITH IOMEGA AND ASK THEM ABOUT THIS HIJACK JOB THEY PULLED. I ALSO WANT EVERYONE ELSE who is using this product to do a quick google search and click the first link a few times. they will quickly see it is sent to random websites.

Other Thoughts: GET OUT OF THE USA MARKET
Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: I can't use it yet I do not know.
Cons: I can't use it at all because the product don't coming with seriral numer. I am stud now. I call newgggs but they want me to call manufacturing company.
My questio how come selling the product is is not ready to use it. Cheaper does not mean better quality.
My questio how come selling the product is is not ready to use it. Cheaper does not mean better quality.
Other Thoughts: no responsablity at all. Focus on VIC.
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: It has a small footprint
Cons: DO NOT USE if you have Macs. This drive does not play well with Apple OS, or iTunes and makes a trainwreck of Time Machine backups. I continued to try, using it as a media server for video files, but finally had to remove it after it would not allow my networked macs to boot up, stalling the Finder and ultimately crashing them. iOmega has not properly thought out the software interface and any calls to tech support only got responses of 'it works fine for us. Call Apple.'
Other Thoughts: I was able to scavenge the 2TB drive out of it for use in a higher grade NAS box so it wasn't a complete loss.
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: After reading alot of the reviews I wasn't sure if i should buy this...But for the promotional price.I wanted to give it a try.
so far this cloud edition harddrive
has been great. It allows me to access any of my files from anywhere that I have an internet connection with no problem...Itotally think its worth the price to buy this product.

Cons: Not as fast...
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: 1. Speed not that bad, was hitting the low 40's.
2. Very easy to set up backups.. really liked the one touch backup.
2. Very easy to set up backups.. really liked the one touch backup.
Cons: 1. Very confusing at first.. Never did get the remote access working reliably.
2. Got this mainly as a media server, but it doesn't pass .mkv files to a Samsung TV until you access the Twokey sever and change generic device to Samsung... BUT... It doesn't save the changes. If you lose power, turn it off, or reboot, you have to change everything back.
3. After about 30 day the webui wouldn’t load up, so I couldn’t change any settings. Everything else was working, just couldn’t change anything. Customer support wasn’t that bad… better than most and seemed to know what they were talking about.. and was quick to give me a RMA#.
4. So… Iomega sent me the RMA e-mail with mailing label to cut out and tape to the box.. My address, their address, the RMA# and all it on it.. cool. $25 bucks and 3 days later they get it… 10 day later I get the same UN-OPENED box back.. looks like they refused it.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor.. get something else.. For $100 more(less than that after wasted shipping) got a different brand 2 drive nas and this thing just works!!! Very easy to set up and manage… Plays nice with my Samsung, remote access works, Cloud.. you name it… just works.. (Up time is now 22 days.. Iomega never made it 2 days) The drive from the Iomega is now in the Synology.

I do miss The One Touch Backup on the Iomega
Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: This item worked for 3 months as a decent network storage drive cheap with allot of memory
Cons: Couldn't get service from iomega and now it's out of warranty. Totally dead.
Internet capiblities never worked, even after relentless rude customer service agents refused to help over and over.
Internet capiblities never worked, even after relentless rude customer service agents refused to help over and over.
Other Thoughts: Don't buy this from Iomega, there are better ones out there I've had good luck with the dlink.
Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Easy to use, Cheap
Cons: Frequently drops network connections. Constantly corrupts PDF files. Bad customer support. Slow. Not easy to add storage.
Other Thoughts: I have had two of these units and will not get another. I should not have got the second one. I can not in good conscience recommend to anyone except my worst enemy.
Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: when it works it's very fast.
Cons: if you leave it for a certain period of time without using it, it freezes. After you reset it, it starts working again. It is very inconvenient to turn it on every time i want to use it.

Pros: Thought I was a pretty good techie till I faced this one down. Mind you they could have made this a little easier, spelled less bells & whistles, but it is worth it if you need a place to stick alot of stuff available to two or more machines. I have a mixed environment dictating the need for compatibility. Short & sweet - the fastest way to load your stuff on this thing is to put it on a flash drive or, I already had, a portable usb drive with all my media on it. Plug it into one of the two usb ports and press the fast transfer button on the front. I left it on over night and 377 gigs copied by the time I got up. Basically it is the only way to do it faster than 90k/s by copy paste. Tech support is there if you need and read the book. It really works like it should if you set it up the way it should be. It does take a while to get familiar with and all is good in the end. I just hope it lasts long enough to get my effort out of it.
Cons: Steep learning curve.
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: - Very easy to hook up
- Relatively cheap for the space
- Looks cool, I guess.
- Relatively cheap for the space
- Looks cool, I guess.
Cons: - Transferring files is so incredibly slow it's borderline useless. Despite trying several network configurations and restarts (and I can move files between my computers which are on wireless extremely quickly, and even over Dropbox), the device takes around two to three hours to move a 1 gb movie file. I bought this as a drive to back up my raw content for video creation, and it is absolutely useless in that regard.
- No USB connectivity whatsoever (minus out) meaning you can't just use it like a regular USB external
- Requires its own power and is very bulky.
- Can't even stream SD movies off it (aka read my files) without it slowing up

Other Thoughts: This is the worst tech product I have ever purchased, hands down. I tried to reach their support and they never offered anything useful (they had me redo stuff I'd already did, then would disconnect the chat when it didn't work). I unfortunately don't have the financial means to buy another HDD, so I'm stuck with this useless one and have no idea what to do. Bottom line: avoid, and avoid all iomega products if this is how they treat their customers.
Nathan, please contact our customer support department. we will work with you to find a solution. You can find an appropriate contact number here: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/app/home Thank you again for your continued support of Iomega.
Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Easy installtion, wireless, flexible, piece of mind with instantaneous backup feature. Drive can be accessed as a network device/file server.
Cons: No 'silent' mode on start up of PC. Would be nice if it could just run in the background
Other Thoughts: I found this drive at a famous 'brick and mortar' store for a great sale price. I bought it to replace an old backup drive that had quit working.
Intallation was quick and easy, and interfaced seamlessly into my home wireless network.
After a year in use, the hard drive on my laptop failed. Nothing would bring it back to life. After rebuilding and reinstalling programs on the new drive, I found that the 'instant backup' had done it's job, and all folder that were being backed up contained all my files!
What could have been quite a loss turned into a simple process of copying files back over from the iomga to the new hard drive and continuing on my way!
I can't say enough of how pleased I am with this purchase and highly reccomend it to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive way to protect their files.

Pros: Available from anywhere on my home network! Lots of capacity. Doesn't need a connection to my computer. Gigabit capable (though I am using on a 100 Mbps net for now). Easy to set up and use via DHCP and addressing with Explorer. (see Other thoughts if you wish)
Cons: I didn't like the included software, but I tend to not like anybody's hardware interface software (printers, NICs, etc.). So not really a negative -- just not something I want.
Other Thoughts: I am using this on my home net and I assigned a static IP for it so I'd know 'where it lived.' To use it from my computer, I opened Windows Explorer and typed the address 192.168.40.5 (the address I assigned it) and once it became visible to Explorer, I highlighted it and clicked on Tools, Map Network Drive. I created a couple folders and I assigned a letter to each (T: and U:). I selected that the drive should be mapped at startup.
Other users don't see the drive because they don't know how to find it -- that suits me.
My first use was to back up an entire hard drive from a computer with a mobo problem. Later I set up a new computer and just for the heck of it I mapped to the drive and watched a couple videos on the new computer.
I need to get a Gigabit router so I can take advantage of the high-speed interface. I may also buy another one of these. After all, there are still V: and W:

Pros: Lot's of features
Easy setup
Relatively inexpensive.
Easy setup
Relatively inexpensive.
Cons: Not blazing fast.
Other Thoughts: In my opinion, this purchase was well worth it. I haven't used the proprietary software, all I did was power the thing up and connect it to my network. Saw it grab a DHCP address on my network, browsed to the IP and all the settings were at my fingertips. This took less than 5 minutes to configure. CIFS and NFS work great, with Win 7 laptop, ubuntu linux and Xbox360. All devices see shares with no issues, and movies/music stream fine. Speed is not blazing fast, my transfer rate when copying data was 1MB/s - but that may be a limitation on my wireless network itself. System also takes a while to reboot (10 minutes), which is required for certain configuration changes and firmware upgrade. Not a big deal. Also did not recognize my old printer - Canon L90 - wish it did or gave me the ability to somehow install drivers for this printer. Have not tested personal cloud or remote access yet.
Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Ability to wirelessly access all my media from multiple devices (TV, PS3, Bluray Player, Laptops etc.)
Cons: I have had this drive for over a year now. Every few days, it will stop showing on the network. On checking, I always find drive to be running fine (sometimes i find the fan is off) but still doesn't show on the network. If i power off the drive & turn on again after few mins, it starts to work normally (starts to show on the network). I have had this problem from very begining but never had time to contact Iomeaga & now it is out of warranty (I think).
I expected it to be much more reliable. Over time, I have put all my photos, videos etc on it & need 100% reliability. I have checked online but couldn't find any solution. I think it is a manufacturing defect.
I had over 200GB data on the drive. Few days ago, I found that all the data is gone. Seems like drive formatted itself !!!
I would advise against buying this hard drive.

Comments: I really like the quick protect software. I have four PC's and 2 laptops between the kids and the wife. This took care of all my backup needs.Once you set it up, you mostly can just forget it till you need to restore your data.
Comments: Disappointing that a brand new, out of the box component wouldnt even power up. Even more disappointing that a week after my order I am still have 2 days of wait for my purchase to arrive in working order - should have just paid the difference and ordered from alternate site where I know I would be assured A+ service.
